12 Jan Solar Potential
At a time when electricity costs continue to suffer sharp increases in price, following a trend that experts indicate is irreversible in the coming years, it is urgent to counter the impact of this increase on municipalities’ bills.
There are three immediate solutions:
1. Reducing consumption, a solution that is often difficult to achieve;
2. Exchange of equipment for more efficient ones, which in addition to the initial investment only guarantees a reduction in part of consumption;
3. Creation of alternative electricity generation solutions through solar energy. In this case, municipalities can approach zero costs.
Solution
To calculate the cost of this third way, municipalities can count on the Municipality’s National Solar Potential Network to carry out cost simulations and find the best solution to implement.
This network discloses the potential of each territory and the return on investment expected from the use of solar energy capture technologies.
Solar map
The tool available through the network includes the production of mapping of the building’s solar potential, so that the identification of the most favorable areas for the installation of solar energy capture systems is quick and georeferenced.
This mapping is obtained through the production of a Digital Surface Model of great cartographic accuracy, preferably using an asset that already exists in most Municipalities, such as digital cartography elements.
